Senior Manager or Director, Government Affairs – Small Business Policy

Role Summary

The right candidate will play a critical role in advancing small business policy priorities for a portfolio of clients. The candidate is a motivated self-starter who will support a growing and dynamic firm. The candidate should have three years of experience (Sr Mgr) or three to five years of experience (Dir) in government relations, preferably recent Capitol Hill experience or government affairs/public affairs experience working in a firm or trade association.

This role will exclusively focus on Prism Group’s significant portfolio of small business advocacy organizations, coalitions, foundations and trade associations.

Candidate should be capable of working independently with minimal supervision, highly organized, and attentive to detail. To successfully execute projects for our clients, the candidate must be able to manage multiple priorities at once, solve problems, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. This position is based in Washington, DC.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the firm’s small business policy expert managing a portfolio of small business focused clients.

  • Conduct policy research and monitor policy issues for clients.

  • Attend relevant hearings/events and provide written summaries to clients.

  • Analyze and track legislation and regulatory developments.

  • Prepare policy talking points for C-Suite leadership for meetings, panels, interviews, etc.

  • Coordinate fly-ins and Congressional/Agency meetings.

  • Develop collateral including advocacy toolkits, and one-pagers, and work with graphics and communications teams.

  • Conceptualize and participate in webinars, receptions, panels, and conferences.

Qualifications and Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience for Senior Manager or 3-5 years of experience for Director.

  • Preferred recent experience with Congress.

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to balance deliverables in a multi-client environment.

  • High attention to detail and can exercise critical thinking in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills are required. (Writing samples will be expected.)

  • Ability to quickly process information and analyze tasks.

  • Research (qualitative and quantitative)

Location

This is a full-time position based at our office in downtown Washington DC. Currently, Prism Group employees work remotely on Mondays and Fridays, unless otherwise warranted by client meetings or travel. We are in-office on Tuesday-Thursday. Normal business hours are usual, but this person must be able to work evenings or weekends if needed. Some domestic travel (20 percent) is required.

Compensation and Benefits 

  • This position range is $75,000-$115,000, with bonuses (client retention and merit-based)
