Prism Group's Daily Summary

APPROPRIATIONS TALKS… House leadership continues to deliberate on a final appropriations bill, and the Republican caucus is working with the Senate on a bipartisan package potentially resembling the one former Speaker McCarthy had pushed before his ouster. The House Freedom Caucus’ leadership has also pressed House Republicans to draft an appropriations bill relatively in line with the Senate’s version.

CONGRESSMAN MCHENRY WILL NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION... Rep. McHenry announced moments ago that he is retiring and will not seek reelection at the end of next year. As chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, he plays an oversized role in shaping banking law in this country and globally.

THE STATE OF THE STATES

SESSIONS BY THE NUMBERS:

Seven state legislatures are in session. Texas is in special session.

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING:

The Georgia state legislature recently unveiled its proposed Congressional map after District Judge Steve Jones ruled that the current map is in violation of the Voting Rights Act. The Republican-led redistricting effort will almost certainly maintain the party’s edge and eliminate a racially diverse, Democrat-held district, and will likely be challenged in court again.

Tennessee governor Bill Lee recently proposed expanding the state’s school choice program by offering vouchers to all parents, as the current program encompasses only three counties and is only available for low-income students. However, the proposal faces questions from some legislators within the Republican governor’s party, who have voiced concerns over such a program’s funding.
