Prism Group's Daily Summary

DISTRICT COURT JUDGE HALTS LATEST TRUMP ORDER... A federal judge in the District of Columbia temporarily blocked President Trump’s order to freeze federal grants and loans until they could be vetted by the new administration. The administrative stay will remain in place at least through Monday, when arguments are scheduled to be heard.

LOEFFLER TO TESTIFY BEFORE SENATE SMALL BUSINESS... Kelly Loeffler, President Trump’s nominee to lead the Small Business Administration, will appear before the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee later today. Prism Group staff will be on site and will provide a readout to clients following the hearing. The action kicks off at 3:30pm ET and can be viewed here.

SMALL BUSINESS, BIG POTENTIAL: SCOTTSDALE, MIAMI, AND ATLANTA TOP THE LIST OF BEST CITIES FOR ENTREPRENEURS... Starting a small business and eventually making it big has long been synonymous with the American Dream. In fact, in 2018-2019, 62% of adults viewed entrepreneurship as a promising career path. When it comes to the best cities for small businesses, the South clearly stands out. With 14 of the top 20 cities hailing from below the Mason-Dixon line, places like Miami, Orlando, FL, and Austin are sizzling hot for startups.  Meanwhile, out West, cities like Denver and Salt Lake City are making a strong case for small business success, and it's no surprise that the top small business hotspot also comes from this region.

THE STATE OF THE STATES

SESSIONS BY THE NUMBERS:

Forty-five states are in regular session. Tennessee is in special session.

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING:

Missouri is investing $9.55 million in the API Innovation Center and the University of Missouri–St. Louis to expand active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production. This funding builds on previous investments and could generate up to $1.2 billion in regional economic growth over the next five years while supporting the development of critical medications for conditions like cancer, asthma, and anxiety.

A new report from Nebraska’s Statewide Workforce and Education Reporting System has revealed severe shortages in skilled labor. Unfilled positions have reached 68% for teachers, 73% for tech jobs, and 91% for HVAC and appliance repair. Experts cite a lack of in-house training, limited trade school programs, and lower than average wages as factors.
