Prism Group's Daily Summary
THREE MORE APPROPRIATIONS BILLS TO BE MARKED UP IN THE HOUSE… Today, the House Appropriations Committee will markup several FY25 appropriations bills for: Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education; Transportation, Housing and Urban Development; and Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration.
RENT INFLATION REMAINS A PRESSURE POINT FOR SMALL BUSINESSES... The average monthly rent payment growth per small business client was up 12% year-over-year in May. The rent payments per client closely track the nonresidential real estate rent component of the Producer Price Index, which suggests the increases are largely due to inflation rather than small businesses upgrading to bigger or better spaces.
THE STATE OF THE STATES
SESSIONS BY THE NUMBERS:
Six states are in regular session. Virginia is in special session.
WHAT WE'RE WATCHING:
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt (R) celebrated a $51 million federal investment in Tulsa's Tech Hub, helping it become a leader in autonomous technologies. The initiative seeks to create nearly 60,000 high-paying jobs and improve Oklahoma's legacy in the aviation, defense, and manufacturing industries.
Governor Henry McMaster (R) vetoed a proposal for a legislative committee to study Medicaid expansion in South Carolina. Governor McMaster cited the need for more than a five-month study and expressed skepticism about the fiscal responsibility of an expansion. State Sen. Tom Davis (R), who promoted the study, respected the governor's decision but noted the value of exploring Medicaid expansion options.
