LICENSE SURRENDER DRAWS BIPARTISAN SUPPORT… Funding Circle, a fintech lender that was recently approved for a 7(a) license by the Small Business Administration, has voluntarily surrendered that license following the sale of its US operations. SBA’s decision at the time drew criticism from lawmakers, while this latest development was met with bipartisan backing.  

 

HOUSE TO MARKUP PRIVACY BILL... The House Energy and Commerce Committee will markup the American Privacy Rights Act (APRA) Thursday morning, which creates new federal privacy standards including how information is collected, used, and retained by tech companies with exemptions for small businesses. NFIB has endorsed the small business exemption.

Eight states are in regular session. South Carolina, Connecticut, and Virginia are in special session.  

 

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING: 

New Jersey's Department of Education has released new resources to guide the integration of AI in schools, aligning with Gov. Phil Murphy's (D) vision for an AI-driven educational experience. These resources seek to help districts adopt AI technologies responsibly without setting strict usage regulations. 

 

A new report from UConn's School of Public Policy and the Office of the State Comptroller has revealed trends in workforce diversity and pay equity in Connecticut state government following a wave of retirements. The analysis draws attention to ongoing challenges in achieving representation and equitable compensation among employees.
