Prism Group's Daily Summary

TAX PACKAGE ON THE BACK-BURNER... With the work on a half-dozen spending bills all but complete, it’s unlikely that we will see a partial government shutdown come midnight this Friday. But all the attention paid to appropriations has come at the cost of the House-passed tax package, which still remains stalled in the Senate. That bill now faces yet another obstacle in the form of changes requested by Republican tax writer Mike Crapo, who is reportedly asking for modifications to the bill’s Child Tax Credit expansion, among other provisions. Should the bill ultimately be amended, it would have to be sent back to the House for yet another vote.

A PSA FROM SBA… The Small Business Administration is reminding individuals that certain deadlines are coming up on pandemic era loans, including PPP and EIDL. Many businesses may not know they have not applied for forgiveness, or are not current with PPP or EIDL loans. If you’re in doubt, be sure to check your status by clicking here.

THE STATE OF THE STATES

SESSIONS BY THE NUMBERS:

Forty-one state legislatures are in regular session.

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING:

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey (D) has initiated the Artificial Intelligence Strategic Task Force. Using expertise from tech leaders and academics, the task force hopes to instate safety and responsibility in the state’s pioneering AI development industry. Recommendations from the task force are due later this year.

An Oregon audit has revealed the state lacks a comprehensive strategy for managing its 45,000-person workforce. Due to the state being Oregon’s largest employer, the state faces several risks from lacking a management strategy. Risks include poor public services and finances due to inadequate planning and not utilizing technology to track employee incompetencies.
