SMALL BUSINESS OPTIMISM DIPS IN AUGUST... The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index fell by 2.5 points in August to 91.2, erasing all of July’s gain. This is the 32nd consecutive month below the 50-year average of 98. The Uncertainty Index rose to 92, its highest level since October 2020. Inflation remains the top issue among small business owners, with 24% of owners reporting it as their top small business operating issue, down one point from July.
VICE PRESIDENT HARRIS HIGHLIGHTS PLAN TO BOLSTER SMALL BUSINESSES... During the first, and perhaps only, debate between former President Trump and Vice President Harris, Vice President Harris touted her plan to provide new businesses with a $50,000 tax credit to foster small business growth and innovation in both her opening and closing statements.
CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS HOSTS 53rd ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE... Today marks the start of the 53rd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus. As the premier public policy convening focused on issues impacting African Americans and the global Black community, the ALC serves as a powerful platform where thought leaders, legislators, influencers, and concerned citizens come together to discuss critical issues, build partnerships, and advance the political, economic, and social progress of Black communities. This year’s conference features a dynamic lineup of panels, workshops, and networking opportunities.

WHAT WE'RE WATCHING:
A report from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education revealed that 87% of graduates from public universities and colleges remain in the state workforce one year after graduation, with 75% staying after five years. An increase from 2018, the data shows the retention of graduates in critical fields such as nursing, STEM, and teaching, contributing to Oklahoma’s workforce.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R) announced the establishment of the Greater Akron Polymer Innovation Hub, a $41.65 million initiative to advance polymer research and development. The hub is expected to create 2,400 new jobs and generate $43 million in state revenue by 2031.
