GUSTO OPENS WAITLIST FOR AI ASSISTANT FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS... Gusto will soon add an artificial intelligence-powered assistant called Gus to the human resources (HR), payroll, benefits, and compliance platform and products it offers to small business owners. The company opened a waitlist and said it will make the AI assistant available to customers and partners soon, according to a Wednesday (Sept. 11) blog post. “Gusto can provide business owners with quick answers to their most frequently asked questions — like their compliance requirements or what they need to do to file their taxes,” Gusto co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Edward Kim said in the post.
UNIVERSITIES MOVE INTO WORK-BASED LEARNING... Western Governors University (WGU) has acquired Craft Education in order to offer work-based learning and apprenticeship programs to their students. This move comes as universities across the country brace for a drop in projected enrollment by 11% over the next decade as the value of a traditional four-year degree wains and demand for skilled talent remains high.
CONGRESS FACES POTENTIAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN JUST WEEKS BEFORE ELECTION... On Wednesday, Speaker Mike Johnson delayed a vote on a temporary spending bill to maintain federal funding for the next six months. With the new fiscal year starting on Oct. 1, Congress faces pressure to pass this stopgap measure and prevent a partial government shutdown just weeks prior to the election. However, resistance from both parties, including strong Democratic opposition and skepticism from some Republicans, has hindered progress. If approved, it would extend current federal funding until March 28.

New Hampshire's labor force has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels, with caregiving responsibilities disproportionately keeping women out of the workforce. This caregiving gap has resulted in an estimated $710 million in lost wages, leading to both economic strain on families and systemic barriers to workforce participation.
